10/18/01 ~ Indian Summer
The pets had me up early today, even the squirt bottle didn't do the
trick. They just kept chewing on the ficus tree, I'd squirt and
they would come back for more a few minutes later. So I gave up and got up and started computing and
hoped they would let John sleep. They did for a while and then they
blasted their way into the bedroom and started trouble. So much for John
sleeping.
We let the pets outside today for a long time. Keno almost got stung by
a bee. She was sniffing at something intently and then leaped up
backwards and kept rubbing her nose with her paw. I ran over and killed
the bee and Keno seemed to be ok. She didn't rub her nose anymore after
that. Maybe the wings just buzzed on her and she didn't like it.
They ran around like nuts with the boy looking after them. At one point
the boy and Keno were running really fast side by side down the driveway
and then the boy body blocked him and forced him to turn back to the
house. I can't believe he does that!
It was really nice out today so John grilled hamburgers and we sat
outside and ate them together while the kittens played. I had to trick
them with the purple stick to get them to come inside finally. They are
sleeping like logs right now and it is very peaceful and
quiet.
10/17/01 ~ Greetings from Florida
Jen sent us a cute Halloween card today from her and her cat, Sebastian!
It looks like him, well, minus the bulging eyes and candy corn teeth.
The card reads "Happy Halloween
from the cat!" Thanks Jen, we're scared but we love it!
10/16/01 ~ The Guilt Trip
I called and made an appointment for Keno's spaying surgery, Oct. 30th.
I can pick her up the next day so we will have her home for Halloween. I
put it off as long as I could. The shelter sent me a postcard of a cat's
paw with a ribbon tied on one toe, saying "You
Promised." I know, I know. I just hate for her to go even though I
know she has to. I don't want anything to happen to her, that's all.
She's such a good kitty.
Tonight John lifted up the couch to remove any stray pet toys and Keno
ran under. John had been laying on the floor and lifted the couch at a
weird angle. I grabbed the ONE toy that was under there and threw it,
thinking she would run after it but no.... she was more interested in
just being under the couch. I kept trying to get her out and she kept
going further under while John was trying not to drop the couch and
squish the cat.
The boy came running over to see what was going on and that just added
to the confusion. It was kind of funny to see him peering from under the
coffee table to see what was going on. I finally got a hold of Keno and
pulled her out even though John kept saying "Don't pull her, Don't
pull her!" I guess we won't do that again.
10/15/01 ~ Where's the Purple Stick?
The kittens have this favorite toy. A plastic stick with short purple
feathers on the end of it. From day one they have fought over this toy
and even growl if one has it and the other comes near. They run around
with the feather part in their mouth and the stick pointing straight out
in front of them. They run up and down the stairs with it dragging the
stick along the wall to make the most annoying sounds.
They have eaten, chewed and shredded the feathers to bits and there is
not much left of it, but as soon as they see it they go crazy. They have
a yellow feather stick and a brown feather stick but they are not as
good for some reason. Well, its seems that the best time to play with
the annoying stick is at night. Now I hide the purple stick under the
bed at night.
10/14/01 ~ It's not easy to eat your wheaties
The kittens don't let John sit down and eat his cereal in the morning.
They want the milk and they follow him around the house while he walks
around and eats. One morning John stood in the hallway to get away from
them and saw a cat head about waist high, peer around the corner at him.
Keno had jumped up on the shelf in the dining room and stretched from
the very edge to try to get higher and closer to him.
Mom and Bob came over for breakfast this morning. Bob said that he hoped
he didn't have to eat standing up. Thankfully the kittens behaved and
didn't embarrass us. Destiny even came up to Mom again for sniffs and to
be petted and she never does that with anyone.
Later on in the day we let the cats out while we did yard work for
hours. They ran around non stop the whole time. When we all finally came
inside, we took a nap and the cats took a nap. Soon after we woke up we
went to bed again for the night and the cats never even got up. The boy
slept on the bed but the kittens never came upstairs. They didn't come
bother us during the night at all. Around 5 am I woke up and was worried
about them. I went to check on them and they were both asleep on the
suitcases on the top shelf in the basement. That is their new hangout,
the highest point in the house of course.
10/13/01 ~ Armed and Not So Dangerous
We let the cats outside to play today. They just love being outside.
Baby wasn't around and we had to try to keep them close to the house and
trick them to come in.
Destiny woke me up for her usual 2 am petting time. It's hard to get mad
at her when she is so happy and purring so loudly. I do get a little mad
when she lays down so hard on my head and my pillow. Sometimes she does
this weird thing with her tail and wraps it around my head like a
monkey. Gross!
I go to sleep armed with a spray water bottle now. The kittens wake up
before we do and start running all around the bed and chewing on the
little, pathetic ficus tree john is trying to bring back to health. Good
luck with those two around. They rattle the branches and chew on the
leaves in the dark and drive me crazy! Squirt!!!!! Squirt!!! and it
stops for a while. How do they know when you are so close to being
asleep.
10/10/01 ~ The Flying Wendalas
Keno was racing all over the house this morning while I was getting
ready for work. I stepped out of the bathroom and called her name to try
to calm her down and she came running out of the bedroom and leaped
right up onto the railing beside me. It is about an inch wide and looks
down onto the first floor. I grabbed her and gave her a tap on the butt
and put her down saying "NO! NO!" She flew down the stairs
like a lunatic. Sometimes I think she does that railing thing on
purpose.
10/01/01 ~ Sweet Tooth
Destiny loves chocolate pudding! She comes over to me when I am
finishing my cup of pudding and licks the pudding off the lid. I don't
think she is supposed to eat this, but I notice that I subconsciously
don't just peel the lid off and throw it away before I start eating
anymore. |
