Heaven Will Be Brightened By Her Smile

I've often wished for one more day with my Mom, just one more chance to make her smile, hear her laugh or say my name, to feel her comforting touch or to see her face light up when I enter the room.

I wished to hear more words of wisdom and sarcastic humor. I wished to fill the empty feeling in my heart and soul with one more everlasting hug.

My Mom and I were inseparable. She was my Best Friend for 31 years and I was hers. We treasured every moment of life together. We spoke several times a day on the phone. I can't tell you how many times I have reached for the phone to share something that only she would understand or how my heart ached when the phone would ring, knowing it wasn't her. How for the longest time, my first thought upon waking was, "Oh God, It's true. She's gone."

Our bond was so strong, that I felt she would find a way to communicate with me, even now. I long to feel her presence, but it doesn't come the way I expected. I believe that she is always guiding me in the right direction and that she does reach out to me through the kindness of strangers.

She came to me in a dream, shortly after she passed. She didn't want to tell me the meaning of life, or ask me why I kept that one secret from her.
She wanted a hot fudge sundae! :-)
At first, she seemed somewhat taller and younger, and then I realized it wasn't taller and younger. She was unburdened and healthy. Which is all I ever wanted for her.

Through the past several years of our separation, I have learned that whenever I need to hear her voice or see her face all I need to do is listen to myself speak or simply look in mirror. She is there, she is the greatest part of me and I am never alone.

A Mother's love truly lasts forever.

I wrote this memorial 5 years ago.

It has been a year since you've been gone.
Without you we weren't sure we could be so strong.
When things get tough now, we look to each other.
You were the one with the answers,
our Best Friend, Wife and Mother.
You taught us so much.
You always guided the way,
to laugh, love and help others,
make the most of each day.
You touched the lives of many people
and gave them memories that will last.
Not one day goes by without something
to remind us of the past.
A kind deed, thoughtful gift,
good advice, hug or kiss.
We remember you often and say,
"What would Mom think of this?"
Please know that we miss you,
just like you said we would,
and continue to guide us
in the way only an Angel could.

Mom, No words could ever express
my love for you

Looking back,
I can see so many sacrifices
you made along the way.
Some were small, and some
were to great to repay,
but they were all made without hesitation~
because you loved me.

As I think of all my yesterdays,
I recall so many times when you
turned my tears into laughter,
so many problems
you helped me to face.

You were a shoulder to lean on
when I needed you;
you were always there~
because you loved me...

Mom, as I grew older,
you couldn't always be with me,
but you were always there in spirit,
giving guidance when I needed it,
helping me to make each decision.
You taught me to be strong
and to believe in myself.
You taught me right from wrong~
because you loved me.

Now, I look back on the years
and realize how lucky I have been.
You were and are a very special
part of my life.
I want to thank you for helping me
become the person I am now,
for giving me the courage
to reach for my dreams.
My life is rich and my heart is full~
because of you.
