Always Alyssa

My niece, Alyssa is an inspiration to me. I remember when she was born, a tiny 3 pounds. I remember when she came home from the hospital and my father (her grandfather) was afraid to hold her because she was so small. She fit in the palm of just one of his hands.

Alyssa grew and grew and soon she caught up in size to all the other children her age. She was a fighter then and she is a fighter now. She is strong willed and stubborn like her grandfather. She is smart and sensitive. She overcomes obstacles every day. What comes easily to other children is sometimes a struggle for her, yet she continues to move forward demanding to be treated like every other child. She has an amazing will for someone so young.

She is the bright spot in my heart when all things seem dim. She is part of my past, present and future. She is my hero.

I love you, Always
